This Week In WorkTWIW

Who is actually running your Tuesday?

Agents write the first draft. Managers still own the risk. The week is being quietly reassigned — and most orgs have not redrawn the org chart.

Something odd is happening in knowledge work. The calendar still looks human. The tickets still have human names. But a growing share of the first move — the draft, the search, the summary, the tentative plan — arrives from a system that does not sit in stand-up.

Call them agents, copilots, or “workflow automation with opinions”. The label matters less than the pattern: work is splitting into initiation and accountability. Machines are getting better at the former. Humans remain stuck with the latter.

The quiet reassignment

Surveys and vendor decks still sell “productivity”. Fair enough. The more interesting shift is organisational. When an agent can prepare a client pack overnight, who decided the tone? When a model triages support queues, who owns the false negative? The old answer — “the person who did the work” — no longer maps cleanly.

Hybrid made location negotiable. Agentic tools make authorship negotiable. That is a bigger deal than another return-to-office memo.

What to watch this week

  • Job posts that name “AI evaluation”, “agent ops”, or “human-in-the-loop” as core duties — not side hustles.
  • Vendor language shifting from “assistant” to “teammate”. Marketing, yes. Also a tell.
  • Teams that measure review latency, not just generation speed. Speed without judgement is just a firehose.

Work is not disappearing. It is being re-sequenced. The Tuesday that used to start with a blank page now starts with a draft you did not write — and a decision you still have to make.
